Hello, My name is Tara Barnes, and I am a Family Mediator. I am motivated to provide clients with fast and cost-effective Mediation Services. Skillfully trained in Family Mediation at York University, with a leadership background in Acute Inpatient Psychiatric Nursing, I use my experience of helping others in crisis situations overcome the challenges they are facing by facilitating structured conversations and providing creative and practical solutions. I understand that your time, money, and family matters are important.
When couples fall in love and get married, no one tells them how to separate or divorce. Why would they? You don’t need that kind information when you are going to be married forever. I was the same. I was going to be married forever….until I wasn’t. I felt like a failure, to myself, to people I knew, and most of all, to my children. I remember parking at a family law office and getting a breakdown of the costs involved. Panic ensued. Then my lawyer told me about Mediation.
As difficult and challenging Separation and Divorce is, I found Mediation civil, respectful, and supportive. While I heard about the unfortunate financial loss and fighting that came with litigation that my friends and family experienced, I found my own Mediation experience empowering. We weren’t positioned to fight, there was no judge telling us what was going to happen to our family, and the cost wasn’t unreasonable.
That profound experience changed my life. I was so moved by that experience that once I finished my degree, I went back to university and worked hard to build my own practice so I could help other families. It doesn’t need to cost a fortune and take years of conflict to get divorced. My goal is to have clients negotiate their settlements and start their new lives with as strong a foundation as possible.
I will be here to act as a neutral third party during your Mediation and offer resources when appropriate, provide referrals if needed, facilitate a safe and respectful platform for those crucial conversations to occur, and provide professional, organized, and meticulous administrative services.
